Creamy Garlic Parmesan Shrimp

This delicious, creamy, buttery garlic shrimp with parmesan is everything we crave in comfort food. It tastes great, and it’s easy to make, but the best part about this recipe is that it takes about fifteen minutes from start to finish. You can have dinner ready in less time than it takes to figure out what you want to order. 

This creamy garlic shrimp could serve as an excellent base for so many dishes. Add this to pasta for a creamy shrimp pasta dinner or spoon the sauce on top of some white rice. You can even eat this with some warm, crusty garlic bread! 

The two most important things to consider when making this recipe are cooking time and salt. It’s super easy to overcook shrimp, and it’s also very easy to oversalt food containing parmesan cheese. 

Let’s get into the recipe and the tips!

Cleaning and Prepping Shrimp

Prep your shrimp by removing the shells and cleaning them. After removing the shells, cut along the middle and the back of each shrimp with a knife, then remove the veins. I like to leave the tails on, but I know that many people prefer taking them off. Go with whichever option makes you happy. Once you complete this process, rinse your shrimp under cold water and pat them dry. 

Next, season the shrimp with salt and pepper to prepare them for cooking.

Cooking and Serving Options

Start by placing your seasoned shrimp in olive oil for about a minute on each side, just as they start to become pink. Then remove the shrimp from the heat and add in your butter, garlic, white wine, cream, and parmesan. Season to taste, then return the shrimp to the pan. Add in the red pepper flakes and parsley to garnish… and that’s it! It’s really that easy y’all. 

Here are some options for you to eat with your shrimp. 

    • Pasta, preferably Fettuccine
    • White Rice 
    •  A side of garlic bread
    • On top of Mashed potatoes 
    • Cauliflower rice 
    • Zucchini noodles

Creamy Garlic Parmesan Shrimp

An easy creamy shrimp recipe in a buttery garlic parmesan sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb shrimp
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Prep your shrimp by cleaning and removing the shells. I like to keep the tails on for aesthetic purposes, but you can remove the tails as well.
  2. Add salt and pepper to the shrimp, then cook for a minute on each side. Pay attention to the cooking time! The shrimp will finish cooking in the cream sauce, and we do not want to overcook them.
  3. Remove the shrimp from the pan, then add butter and minced garlic.
  4. Once the garlic is cooked through, add in the white wine. Then add in the heavy cream.
  5. Next, slowly whisk in the parmesan, and add the white pepper and any additional salt to taste.
  6. Return shrimp to the pan for an additional 4 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle on parsley and red pepper flakes.

Notes

* Serve this with pasta! This shrimp would work really well with some fettuccine and homemade garlic bread.

* Or, serve this on top of some white rice. For this, I would suggest even including some spinach and sundried tomatoes.
